Thanks for the warm welcome! My daughter left for university last year and I inherited her low tech, 20 gallon, poorly planted, (mostly) neocardinia tank. The neo's were thriving, the plants were not. Shortly after, we moved cross country and most of the shrimp survived but we lost the remaining fish, a glass catfish. Embarrassingly, I did not understand how much tap water varies in different parts of the country and lost a bunch of the neo's that made the trek with us. Despite this, I've fallen hard for the hobby, and started my own tank with the intention of transferring the livestock. This is quite the learning experience, for sure! The new tank is a UNS 90L w/ Controsoil substrate, two medium sponge filters, and a Chihiros Series B light. For plants, I've added an amazon sword, a couple of small java ferns, a couple of small anubias with monstera and dracena propogations rooting in the tank. Eventually, I'll transfer the spider wood w/ attached christmas moss to the 90L. I would like to stay low tech. The livestock is currently a few ramshorn and a few trumpet snails. I've already learned some hard lessons and would do things differently but here we are. I am grateful to have found your community!
