I know Dennis has a section on growing it, but does anyone who is a regular-normal type aquarium plant grower have it? Not all of us have aquarium super powers like him. :D

I think mine is doing OK, but it's hard to tell. Its battling the diatoms right now. I think it's winning, but I'd like to know someone else's experience with it.

I'll be blunt and said that the conditions to grow it are stated plainly in my page and anyone that can follow through with the recommendations can definitely grow it with regular success. There is no magic skill. Its just that most folks think that they can skimp on one angle or another (you may, but your success rates will not be optimized). High, consistent CO2 (50ppm rather than 30ppm) makes a huge impact, as does having a good substrate, adequate fertilization/light (100-150umols). Low KH ( <2 dKH ).

Well, that just begs the question in my mind….

Do they get 50 ppm co2 in their natural habitat? I know there are naturally carbonated springs so there are areas where co2 levels exceed even 50 ppm. Does this Erio only exist in nature with levels this high?

I thought this was an interesting question, as someone in the scientific medical field I often have this question…. IMHO I do think living beings can attain a higher potential in an optimized condition rather than a condition that they have evolved in.

I definitely agree. Look at examples of invasive species like the lion fish in south Florida. They have gone crazy there. Also Kudzu and Mimosa trees here in the SE US. Also Crypt beckettii in the San Marcos river in Texas.

It looks interesting, I don’t have any Erio sp experience, maybe will start with this and report back in few months 🙂. Where did you get this from?

I got it as a tc cup from Cherries Aquatic. They are a sponsor here on Scape Crunch. I messaged them awhile back with no reply, but I think maybe he was on vacation. Most things in the store are sold out, so I don't know if he is still doing business. I have no idea. I ordered a few things last year and everything went great. Winston might also have it. He's doing a sale/show this weekend here in Raleigh. I hope to see him. Sudipta Shaw often sells it on FB on Planted Tank Quick Auctions.

As far as the quing. Mine is growing and doing OK.... but just OK. But maybe this is normal for this plant. It's battling diatoms. I'm more trying to get a sense of if it's growth is normal, or if I could be doing better. That's different from reading just how to grow it.

You need to get some so we can compare notes! 🔥

I wasn't asking how to grow it. I said I read that. I was asking other people's experience growing. Basically, how does it grow for them. Someone told me today it grows slow for them. Another person told me it grew great for them and then it would melt.

Hey. I had replied before that I got mine from a tc cup from Cherries, but so much on their site was sold out, and I wasn't sure if they were still in business. Well, I received an email from them today that they had restocked their tc. So if you were interested in getting some of these, there you go.

Thanks appreciate it

My erio quin grows pretty well. I only split it once in the few months I’ve had it.
I have about 40-60 ppm of co2 and 120-150 par and 0dKH. A mix of netlea and apt feast substrate.
The only problem with it is that it gets algae on it sometimes. I’ve been told the algae is just from the tank being 5 gallons and harder to keep stable, and it’s an easy to remove algae so I don’t mind it that much, but hopefully it goes away soon.

Cool. Thanks. Yeah, mine grows much quicker than I expected when it is happy. I wasn't expecting that. I assumed Erios were much slower growing. My parameters are similar to yours, but my light is on the lower end around 125.

I forgot to add one thing. My nitrates are around 5ppm
