Welcome to ScapeCrunch

We are ScapeCrunch, the place where planted aquarium hobbyists come to build relationships and support each other. When you're tired of doom scrolling, you've found your home here.

Hello Welcome, Chimera

Hey all,
Thanks for letting me join. Im so glad to have found this forum.
Like a few others I have seen in recent posts, I am returning to the hobby after more than a decade since I tore down my last set-up.
I will start a journal soon as the long format reads of yesteryear still really resonate with me and I learnt so much spending countless hours trawling the forums all those years ago. Recently deciding to return to the hobby after getting the all clear from the Minister for Expensive Ideas and Finance (aka my wife) I was disappointed but not surprised to find that the rise of social media and short form content has killed much of the banter on places like plantedtank.net and my old hangouts. Here I learnt about EI fertilisers, Tom Barr and coveted tiny carpeting plants like HC and exotic mosses.
Australia has always been a very different market to what one experiences on the internet. Biosecurity and a smaller market often means that Neocardina and many plants were simply not available or eye wateringly expensive if they could be obtaining in the community as the retailers simply did not have them.
I now live in Tasmania, even more removed from the planted tank and aquascape community. As an island state to Australia, we have even more strict import laws and almost no local aquarium shops, bar a few pet shops. There are a few fish importers but not retail outlets as such.
So this build will be the best I can get my hands on via the local postie or constructed at home.

Looking forward to starting a build in the coming weeks!
Let’s see what I can get!
