I'm not a big fan of HOB filters but if you are, Oase North America website has all Biostyle filters 70% off right now. I've only used a Tidal HOB, so not sure how the Biostyles compare, but it still seems like an incredible deal. I wonder if they're planning on discontinuing them.

Just to add to the thread, I have recently switched from my leaky Fluval 307 to an Oase Biostyle 75 that I had lying around.

There is certainly a lack of space for biomedia compared to a canister filter but this photo should show that it is a massive HOB compared to my 54L tank.

My thoughts are that if one were to use 20-30PPI foam in the HOB and have an additional foam as a pre-filter on the inlet, filtration capacity for a medium stocked planted tank shouldn't be a problem

I used the Biostyle Thermo 30 when I first set up my tank. The heater was set to 79F (26C). I can't imagine why they would do that. I unplugged the heater and my tank is small, so I eventually decided to switch to the smaller one.

Now I use the Biostyle 30. I know HOB aren't the best but with a small tank, it sucks to have filter, heater, CO2 and skimmer taking up space. With this one, I have the CO2 in the filter and I could put a small heater there if I wanted. Skimmer is separate, but I have 2 things in the tank instead of 4. It works very well for a small tank.
