I am seriously plant shopping this week, and am wondering if anyone is successfully growing Lagenandra thwaitesii submerged? I have seen some conflicting information in the interwebs, but I don't necessarily trust those whose primary interest is in selling the plant. Kew refers to this plant as a helophyte, typically in a marshy environ with its base submerged, but foliar growth emersed. ADA in their article THE CHARMS OF LAGENANDRA Part 1 states that "it is not suitable for underwater", so I am leaning toward that being closer to the truth (but a good excuse to scape a paludarium in the future). If anyone has experience with this plant, I would love to hear about it!

When i was ordering several unusual lagendandra plants i skipped that one for the very reason you are thinking of skipping it. I believe it requires marsh conditions and not just a paludarium with misting - i.e, the bottom of it should be submersed while the top grows emersed but i'm not 100% sure - i will say the ones i picked up grow excellent in my extremely soft acidic water. So i guess i'm not being much help but there was one species i wanted that i could find - maybe sp silver (though that is a plant as described is best grown emersed); the ones i did find and purchased included: l. ovata, l Keralensis, L meeboldii 'Vinay Chandra', L bleeding heart (which i think it just another meeboldii) and l. meeboldii hickory. So nothing exciting 'cept ovata i guess or maybe keralensis.

The problem is i have no clue which one i planted where ;)
