Curious. I'll be making the jump to a sump soon as I recently got my hands on a 167 gallon Waterbox. Just got a tiny problem... I've never used a sump before--only canisters. I know Tom Barr has spoke on this topic a few times, specifically on the bean animal overflow. I'm trying to understand the various types and if I should go DIY or just purchase one outright.

Does anyone have experience with integrating Co2 w/ a sump? If so, what approach worked best for you?

Here's the tank I'm working with. It's brand spanking new and I got it for free so I'm trying to make the best of it. I don't have the sump or stand. Only the plumbing and tank itself.

INFINIA Reef 230.6

Much love.

Here's a discussion about degassing with sumps 👍

Mike (@Unexpected ) ran an all-in-one, with a homemade Yugang reactor and open sump across the back:

Yugang made some calculations for me and on the second build, we nailed it. I get a 1.5pH drop and the design makes it so no additianal CO2 can be added. It's seemingly impossible to gas my fish as the reactor has safety built into the design length. Amazing! I'm so glad there are so many people smarter than I am. It makes my problems so much easier to manage 😜.

The reactor is nothing more than cheap PVC with a gentle stream of tank water flowing under a pocket of CO2. Add a cheap bypass and a method of injection and you now have a Yugang reactor. This success has energized me enough to have another go at the AGA. I bought new lights (Weak Aqua P600's), jammed as many plants I could into the tank and I'm starting my plant selection now. I have a long ways to go but I'm hoping to achieve my goal..

And a plumbed sumped 👍

With my 120 AIO, @Yugang reactor regulator calculations, if using his reactor, was perfect. With the sumped tank, pictured above, I am running 2x ARC reactors to get the maximum CO2 while still having overflow mode in action. I just have so much off gassing while using the sump and skimming the display. I also discovered, without it's own set of issues, I needed to directly plumb the out flow from the reactos directly into the return from the sump. I had to upgrade my DC pump on the reactors to counter the backflow from the return pump. Luckily, Yugang reactors require very little flow and the small upgrade works fine. I know others with sumped tanks followed the Yugang formula and achieved an easy 1.5 drop, this tank had other ideas, but my tank now has proper CO2 with the above additions and plumbing.

Now that’s wild, congrats. Someone got fired over that invoice 🤣

I too have a sump, a 40B with 20 gallon sump. I use a Cerges reactor currently but I plan to upgrade to a Yugang. I don’t do anything to offset off gassing. I have an eshoppes eclipse bean animal overflow and my pipes are submerged in the sump so the only “splashing” is the gentle flow into the overflow box from the tank.

specifically on the bean animal overflow

Here's some starter info on Bean Animal

Awesome, thanks a bunch!

I'm trying to convince myself not to jump on a FB Marketplace great deal for a used but pristine Waterbox 130.4 full setup with tank, stand, sump, and equipment. Have you setup your 230.6 yet? I have concerns about scaping around the overflow section, as picky as that may seem.
