I've recently purchased a product for one of my tanks from Amazon. Had an issue, contacted the manufacturer's support, who promptly replied and solved the issue. A few days later, a rep from the manufacturer contacted me offering a 50% refund on the product in exchange for a 5-star review on Amazon. I caved and took the refund even though the product, in my eyes in not a 5-star product, very few are.

Subsequently, the manufacturer has offered more pay for play. The thing is, I find their products to be a second-tier item.

After this bouncing around in my head for a week or so, I'd rather purchase the higher quality item once at full price than worry about a lesser quality item offered with a significant cost saving, potentially failing or annoying me with its limitations.

I feel a bit dirty from this. Sharing to try to help clear my conscience.

I feel if this is touching on your ethical code you have a very healthy line which is to be commended.

My guess is the company is F-Zone based on your light post.

Giving a 5 star review to one product that you could say is less about the product and more about their customer service, since they did engage and solve your problem is easily justified. Plus you had a sunk cost into the product. But doing it again is definitely agreeing to kind of sponsor a product in return for savings and I wouldn't do that for something I know is flawed.
